Visa delays leave French man unable to work despite skills shortage

There are businesses in WA desperate for workers at the moment in industries like construction, agriculture and hospitality, and yet there is a group of people who have the skills and are willing to work – but can’t.

It’s all because of lengthy delays in getting their working visas extended.

Xavi is originally from France and has been in Australia for three years and has worked as fruit picker and in construction.

He’s been on a bridging visa for 13 months and has not been allowed to work for all that time.

He spoke to Nadia Mitsopoulos on Mornings.
